My dad owns an auto body shop and i have a boat i want to do some repairs on but ive never messed with a gel coat. I have SEEN it done once or twice but dont know if that was the real way of doing it.

Way our painter did it....

repaired the section and sprayed the gel coat in the area and tried to blend it in with the rest of the boat... upon curing, he took a DA (orbital sander) and wetsanded it down everywhere he sprayed. Then buffed it all out.

Is this the correct/only way to go about spraying gel coat? It was a job but came out looking nice by what i can remember. Looked like a mirror.

Any help?

Yes, that would be the short version of the story though.

I used to work for Bayliner Boats as a processor (Fiberglass Repair) About 20 years ago right out of highschool. All be it was only for a short while but that is what we used to do to repair. Although we didn't wet sand after just sand with a fine grit paper and buff.
