1988 blk max 150
I got it bad!!! Did alot of work on the motor , ready to go,{almost} Replaced the water pump, rebuilt the feul pump, replaced the poppet{what a difference that made}. Just got it out of the shop , had a sync & link done. The motor purrs. Only one bad thing, The wrench said water in the tank. What do I do with 30 gals of bad gas? Just wanted to say thanks to all for the expert advice I got and read on other posts,
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: Spring Fever

Pump it out into five gallon buckets and let the water settle to the bottom. Now pump only the fuel on top of the water back into the boat. That is if the amount of water is excessive, otherwise add quiksilver Dri Fuel and run that tank dry before refilling.Around here we charge $10.00 a gallon for disposal of bad gas so my plan, although labor intensive, will save you money. You'll only have to dispose of the remaining bad gas and water which will probably be under a gallon.

Re: Spring Fever

Add a water seperating filter to your fuel line after you get the water out of the tank.

Outboardguy's suggestion will work if you use the tank outlet (detatch hose from engine) and drain most of the water before any gas. You can probably get all of the water by draining about 5 gal.

Good luck. :)

Re: Spring Fever

If you dont allready have a water separating fuel filter, I just put one on my Merc 150. I didnt want one that was very big, I went to the marina by me, and they are a honda dealer. They sold me a really nice little filter from Honda that is compact, and has a clear section on the bottom with a drain and was just under $40.00. He said that the filter, although expensive only needed to be changed every other year, so that helps with the cost. Also, my NAPA store said that he thought he could get the filter cheaper. I installed mine between the tank and the primer bulb and it works fine.

Re: Spring Fever

Drained about 20 of the 30 gal left in the boat I did not see any water. By the way there is a fuel/water seperator on the boat. I just bought the boat end of last season. Seems the old owner never changed the seperator. The water build up in the seperator must of been building up for years. All's left is bottom paint, Got SPRING FEVER real bad!!! Thanks for the replys.
Dead Eye
