Spring for my carb/throttle disconnected, where does it go?

I have a 1991 Mercruiser 4.3L v6 with a Mercarb and elec choke. The motor runs fine but there is a spring that is that is not connected to anything. I assume it should connect to the carb or the throttle linkage, but I cannot see any obvious location. The spring is about 4 inches long and is connected to the intake manifold near the front of the engine. Does anyone know where it should connect to? I cant find any reference to this spring in any manuals or diagrams.

sounds like a return spring for the throttle (as used on cars) Most boats don't seem to use them. If your throttle closes properly you shouldn't need it, but if it sometimes hangs a few hundred RPM's too high, someone might have installed it instead of fixing the cable adjustment
