I had my engine/outdrive professionally winterized last year. Is there a procedure for bringing it out of winterization and/or first start up? I have an 1978 Winner with a mercruiser inline 6 I/O.

thanks

Re: Spring opening procedure

out of service manual #2 (C-90-71707). which i use for my 75 L6. i don't know if yer 78 uses the same manual or not. so beware of my info. returning to service.

install the batt. bein sure it's fully charged. clean i lightly lub terminals

drain the anti freeze, if ya want to save it

check cooling system to make sure all the hoses are attached proper

readj. drive belt tension

check engine alignment

chekc engine, transmission, stern drive, power steering, power trim for proper oil levels

check engine mount fasteners

be sure drian plugs are in and drain valves are closed......

that's all it says. most of the hard work was at the winterizing side of things. not the return to service side i think.......persoanly, i'm gonna do a minor tune up on mine too.

Re: Spring opening procedure

Here's what I do:
Make sure all drain plugs are back in and sealed
Check all cooling/exhaust hoses and clamps
Check/clean both batteries' terminals
Check/clean electrical connections at starter
Check oil level
Grease both driveshaft and steering fittings
Run blower for 5 minutes, start on the hose, check for any kinds of leaks, verify normal EGT's, temp, oil pressure, voltage, sounds
When up to temp, I double check timing and verify advance
Lastly I dig the mantis nest out of my bilge pump outlet (the rascals build in there every year), check the dates on my flares, and then I'm ready for the water.

You may have additional things to do with your outdrive (I don't have one)

Last year I also did "remove engine to replace faulty distributor cap" but I'm hoping to avoid that one this year ;)
