1998 Bayliner 175 3.0 litre Bayliner trailer.

Got this boat and trailer used about a month ago. Both have been sitting for 8 years,in a barn covered and away from the weather.

Yesterday I pulled the bolts on the spring shackles and found a lot of corrosion , on the bolts and the bushings.

Previous owner had used Bostick Anti seize compound on the bolts, and the action of 2 dissimilar metals, and the water ,has caused the bolts to corrode.

This weekend I plan to repack, and inspect all bearings and replace the bolts and bushings on the spring shacles.

Any recomendations on the type of grease I should use for the bolts on the springs???.

Once this is done I can start on the boat and motor etc. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Clipper 800 and the crew

Re: Spring Shackle bolts

The hardware may not look esthetically pleasing but chances are that the hardware is fine.

Without a protect coating steel in start to show signs of rusting overnight so just because you see rust doesn?t mean that the hardware has been compromised.

A good grade 8 bolt will be around long after the rest of your trailer has rusted away around it.

Oh ya, no grease. Just torque to specification
