Spun Hub?

Hi,

I hit 2 big waves at the weekend and immediately after my prop was slipping. I slowed down and managed to get home with the leg fully trimmed in. As soon as I trimmed out even just a small amount the revs would increase but I had no drive. I managed to get on the plane ok with it trimmed down. Back at the marina I have noticed I can hold the prop fins and rock it diagonally but it does not spin freely when in gear. I do not live near the boat so my initial thought now I home is that I have spun the hub (flo torq) can anyone help with advice on whether all these symptons would suggest this? Or what other thoughts do you have.

It is an 2008 Alpha 1 on a 4.3l TKS. Many thanks

I don't work on I/Os at all, so I am just thinking out loud here  Your desription of how it is acting sounds more like the prop is ventilating, could the exaust bellows have come off and be flooding the prop with exaust when you trim up. Just a thought from looking at another post on here and seeing where the exaust dumps out, maybe the experts in this field will chime in.

No I highly doubt it is anything within your gearcase.

You are describing either a spun hub, or on an I/O, this symptom also describes a spun engine coupler.

Alternately I suppose it's neither, and the whole gearchase is possibly going into neutral at certain trim levels, and not at other trim levels? This would also lead me to check for a damaged or out-of-adjustment shift cable.

Thanks for the replies. So far nothing actually found wrong with prop and explaination pointing to ventillation due to rough conditions. Will be taking out for a test to find out.....

I had the same problem on my 2002 Capri 195 4.3 with flo torq prop. Turned out that the prop nut loosend a little bit. I torqued it to the proper specs and the boat ran great. Probably should check that nut more often.

Really appreciate this reply thanks. Didn't manage to test at the weekend but since pulling the prop and refitting it no longer rocks so all seems fine. Fingers crossed for the actual test!
