Just bought a very nice 2008 Chaparral 190 SSI with a Mercruiser 4.3 (serial number 1A313653). 155 hours on the engine.
Out boating today, maiden sea voyage after running around the local lake last weekend for about an hour. It ran fine at the lake.

we put in at the ramp, motored down river no wake speed until the mouth of the harbor (about a 25 minute ride), and as when I powered up outside the no wake zone the boat behaved like I had a spun prop hub (I had a spun hub on a non-Merc prop in the past). went up to 3000 RPM but didn't go anywhere. i could motor around at 1500 RPM and make headway speed but at WOT the boat didn't get up and go. and I noticed there was a discernible vibration at 1500 RPM when we were cruising down river at low speed that I hadn't noticed last weekend and when I powered up.

The prop is definitely older. Merc 14 x 20p with the Flo-torq hub. I took the prop off, examined everything, and it looks fine.

Here is my question: is it possible to have a Flo-torq prop get spun? the sleeve is a plastic square that fits into a square hole in the prop. what would "spin"? I would expect the hub to be broken or whatever if the prop was really spun (and the source of my problem).

Thanks.,

The Flo-torq hub isn't designed to slip like the rubber cushion hubs of yesteryear. They tend to break upon severe impacts and the resulting pieces may or may not bunch up and permit continued operation, at lower non planning speeds, or offer new Forward Neutral and Reverse Neutral in addition to the conventional neutral.
Had you went through any weeds? They can be snagged and create all kinds of vibration and slippage problems

If you have a old flo -tq2 hub they can indeed get spun its, in the design .If you do a search over in the hull truth theres a interesting convoluted discussion about a fella that had 2 to 3 spin in a row and some explanations .If i read it correctly it has to do with hubs rounding off due to length variations in the inserts and incorrect spacers?Check it out to see if this applies to you atall.http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/317438-spun-two-prop-hubs-two-trips.html
