I have a '87 50hp. Force Model 507x7C I took it to the lake and it was fine. After about 25 minitues or ridin something started to slip first though was i spun out the hub. So i had that prop re-hubbed and(still slipped, so i bought a new one and it still slips. I drained the gear lube and no metal shaving or bad lube. Every teeth on all the gears are still there and look good. What is my problem?????<br /><br /> twilson16@hotmail.com

Could be the prop slipping the water. Let's have the details about it (rpm, speed, load, mount height, boat type, trim angle).

it does it from idle to acceleration. When you accelerate it begine to slip the motor rev up to high rpm and its going nowhere

Not sure about the force, but on other motors I've seen a square connection. If it slips there I'd expect an alarming noise along with it. If you remove the spark cords, engage gear and turn the prop by hand, does the flywheel follow the movement?

yes the fly wheel moves with it then i took the lower unit off. I turn the prop and the shaft moves with it nice and freely not any rough noises. I understand one option is cavitation. Does this happen all at once. <br /><br />Also would a loose linkage cable make it slip i noticed in the foot that the linkage cable wasnt screwed in all the way cause slack right? I dunno just tellin you what i know

Look for anything that would make bubbles under the boat, and allow them to pass-over the prop. Look for dents, tranducers, ropes, or anything else, that interupts the pure water over the prop.<br />Make sure that the cavitation plate (the wings on the leg above the prop), are below the bottom of the boat's keel. It could be you need to lower the whole engine.

im goin to look underneath the boat now to see it there is somethin caught. The keel is the very bottom surface of the boat right if so i will check and tell you where the cavitation plate is. Its funny though i havnt moved the motor EVER!!!!

Could it be that loose linkage cable ? When you put it in gear it engages the the slack catches up and makes it slip???? I dunno because you dont hear and grindin like you slowly easying it into gear. I gues the linkage couldnt do that. What else could

Let me see if I have this right. When you put it in gear, the boat moves but when you give it throttle, the boat moves slow but the engine revs up. Is this correct?<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Does it churn up a lot of water like the prop is spinning and you're tied up to the dock?<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Well, I think it's in gear and the clutch is engaging. It still sounds like a spun prop hub but I understand you're using a new prop. I'm wondering if a gear is spinning. Like the pinion gear spinning on the driveshaft or the gear spinning on the propshaft. If you're satisified the prop hub is o-k, you may have to drop the l/u and see what's happening with it.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

i need to do the line up test on the prop but i am pretty sure thats not it. I dropped the foot and there was no pieces/shavings of metal. Good lookin gear lube. all teeth on gears are still there

Had very similar problem on my boat...<br />Try dropping the trim bar down one notch.<br /><br />Not sure why my boat/prop didn't do this right <br />away, but only after a little use.<br /><br />Switched to a SS cupped prop, and am back on<br />"normal" trim setting.
