Spun prop? new prop?

Well I was visiting family near Annapolis, MD and took the boat out on the South River when Arthur came up the coast. I think the wind blew too much water out towards the bay and the water levels were pretty low. So I hit bottom at the marina and I bent the prop a little bit. Well I got the boat back to my home lake and at my marina. Been so busy and finally take it out tonight and I think I spun the prop? It will idle fine, but if you give it a little "gas" it won't do anything. Limped back to the marina.

So if it truly is a spun prop - what kind of prop should I get? This summer has been crazy and I barely have used the boat. I start law school in a week and work has been crazy so I have little or no time to research what the heck to get. I assume the new prop comes with the hub?

I have a 2005 Crownline 192 BR with the 4.3 Merc. I take the kids tubing, but nothing special. I just want a good prop that will last and would rather it come up on plane quick than top end speed. Any help would be appreciated - my first full year with the boat and it has been rough for a number of reasons.

A pity you don't have the wot rpm numbers and speed achieved with lightly loaded boat on flat calm water as to know if previous prop was a good overall water performer or you need a prop maximization for yout set-up now that current prop is kaput.

Happy Boating

Take the prop off, check the size and purchase another just like it.

Or you can follow the recommendation of the Mercury prop selector and get a 14-1/2 X 19 pitch or a 15.5 X 18 pitch 3 blade aluminum props. Either would be considered the "stock" prop for your boat with the 4.3L.

just to be clear a new prop will fix the spun prop issue - correct? I am a little confused reading about fixing the hub. Since I need a new prop anyways I am not interested in fixing the old one. I just want to make sure that when I order the new prop it will have the "hub" as well. I know these are really dumb questions :(

For someone doing it the first time can I take it off at the marina while in the water?

Look at Solas Amita in size you want... that prop has the hub pressed in at the factory, all you have to do is slide it on your prop shaft..with proper washers and nut. you will note that your prop shaft has "splines" or teeth.. likely 15 in number for most A1's.. the pressed in hub will fit like a glove... or you could buy a prop that requires you to buy a hub kit which you install yourself.. Ive used both with success...I prefer the props with hub already installed.... either will work fine...if you want best performance to jump on plane quickest, get a 4 blade prop... have fun!

A Solas Amita has the hub already pressed in. The Solas Rubex usues their replaceable hub(called the Rubex hub). The two props are otherwise the same.

If you purchase the Solas Rubex prop here, it comes with the hub kit included in the price.
