spybot verses adware

I would like your opinions on the above subject as to which a person should run. I am running spybot search and destroy and when I download adware and run it, I get a message that a fatal exception has occured and I need to reboot my computer. Spybot also tells me that if I run adware, it could find items(from spybot) as well and I could ignore them. I have two hard drives with my system. I put spybot on C drive and adware on D drive. Are there any thoughts to my problem or solutions other than to run one only?

I run both on the same machine with no problems. I'm running Win2K. I really doesn't matter if they are installed on different drives, mine are on the same drive.

No solutions. I've been running both for a while now on XP, both before and after SP2. No problems so far.

Both use windows to operate so they are confecting each other probably trying to use the same key or value in your registry

Been thinking about this and here's what I'd do. Remove Spybot and then install Adaware to see if it will run by itself. If it does, then reload Spybot. If not, then there's a conflict with your computer and Adaware.

It may have to do with which is installed first. Try re-installing spybot first then adware, if it doesn't work, do adware first then spybot. I know this is a problem that exists between different companies firewall and parental control software.

I've run both separately, and both simultaneously with WinXP Pro Sp1 and then SP2. No issues to report regarding compatibility.

I have Spybot and I have Norton.<br /><br />Had a problem, so I ran Spybot. Everything's okay, it says.<br /><br />Run Norton, find two versions of spyware.<br /><br />'Nuff said?

I am running both, on many systems, 98, 98se, 2000 pro, xp hom, xp pro. all run fine, adaware does report dso related registry key/s that is a false report, delete it if you want but it is replaced by the system. also in spybot there is a link to another software program, I have ran it on all of the systems above, it adds over 3000 registry keys. firefox, thunderbird, and firewall no more problems.

i run both, as well as cwshredder (small, fast little program that gets rid of common redirect problems). i finally have things working well.<br /><br />i installed spybot first, then adaware. i got the same message about conflicts, but have not had any problems with them affecting each other.<br /><br />i also run norton, which occasionally finds thing both miss.<br /><br />funny thing is, i don't get crapped up from porn or other off-beat sites. know what kills me? my wife and her on-line shopping sites.

I am going to have to agree with you, Mark42, on this. I do run Win XP Pro and have both on my machine also. Can't remember which I actually installed firs, but I did get a report that (from one or the other) it might find traces of the OTHER app and think it is actually bad stuff. I wish I could remember now which one was doing what, but I do know that if one did a Google search on adware / spybot error reports they can find out the answer...

Re: spybot verses adware

Hi people! Thanks for all your advice and input into my spybot/adware problem. I uninstalled my spybot, reinstalled adware, ran it a copuple of times then installed spybot and everything seems to be working well. No fatal errors or messages(as of yet). I did notice that both were newer versions of what I had although I always checked for updates on both of them. Computers, were would we be without them! No more headaches....ah if only. Now I am  Tks.

Malibu...sounds like your hard drive is partitioned (C & D). When running both products it is necessary to make sure each scans the C & D partitions. It should not matter which each has been installed on, although it is somewhat unusual not to have all programs on one partition and files, etc on the other.
