Squeal when boat first starts

When I first start the boat its has a loud chirping noise for about 15 secs and then it stops until i try to use the trim it chirps again. I know its the alternator belt cause taking it off and starting it completely erased the problem. I bought a new alternator and a new belt and made sure the belt was tight but neither helped. It seems like the belt is jumping when the noise is happening and then stops, any help is much appreciated!

Well, new does not meat good.
There are plenty of defective new parts. If you have old alternator around, put that on, if quiet, replace the new alternator at your place of purchase. If the old alternator did the same and that is why you replaced it, try swapping at the dealer if they are nice enough to let you have another try, you can probably tow the boat and do a swap in the parking lot at the shop.

Voltage regulator not working right? Maybe causing some extra work for the belt system? (Admittedly; a wild guess)

Yeah i was thinking about trying the same. The old alternator did do the same thats why I tried replacing it. It does seem like when the alternator is pulling the hardest, at start up and using trim, something is getting the belt in a bind and making it squeal. I also thought about the pulley being the problem. It looks straight but is worn a little, had a guy tell me that putting a slightly wider v belt on it may help.

first, have you verified that you have the existing v-belt tensioned enough?

most people dont realize how much tension should be on a v-belt.

if the old alternator is doing the same as the new alternator, most likely your belt is not tight enough

So I tried a test a guy at work told me to do, took the battery cable off to see if it stops and it did. So that tells me it is in the charging system, I already replaced the alternator but that seems like it could still be the problem so ima gonna try a new alternator again to see if it fixes the problem. Any other suggestions on what it could be? Hard to believe I got 2 defective alternators in a row but thats a possibility. Thanks guys

Taking the battery cable off the battery may have just blown the regulator in the alternator. The old remove the battery cable on cars use to work, but even now it can blow the reg in the ALT

Agree its the ALT, but the belt is not tight enough or the belt is not the right size. Looking at the belt it is below the top of the pulley so either that is the wrong pulley or the wrong belt width. All of the belts are sitting a bit low
