Squeeze bulb lower smoke at startup?

Will installing a squeeze bulb on the fuel line lower smoke at startup? My theory is that if the fuel line is partly drained after sitting still, there can be air bubbles in it that causes the VRO to puke oil instead of fuel into the engine.

Engine Evinrude 300 XP 88, 4-cable VRO, smokes like nothing else at startup. When warm it runs just fine.

Anyone tried out the fuel enrichment kit for the OMC 300 without power steering? It senses high vacuum and engages the primer solenoid.

I'am absolutely sure your theory is right. There also was an issue at some vintages where the oil tank vent got bad, I had it on my tiny 40 HP 1988. When the weather got warmer during the morning/day, the oil tank fed oil right thru to the carbs. Smokes like crazy. Can be cured by replacin oil tank cap, or puncturing diaphrame in cap with a papirclip. Better buy a new though. If there is an airleak in fuel line, it will feed oil compared to gas pump strokes and smoke a lot too. There should be a primer bulb, per OMC instructions and it should be primed before each start.

Hey thanks G Dane!

That could be a cheap and easy way to become a bit less impopular at the docks!

A squeeze bulb and check the oil vent cap it is. Also I will look for air leeks.

I WOULD NOT PUT A BULB IN IT the 300 did not have a bulb due to the restriction it would cause. I don't know to much about this just what I have read on this site and I read somewhere to remove the bulb on a 300 if someone has installed one. Someone on this site should know a lot more on this subject.
