Yesterday, while starting my 1996 Johnson 88, my squeeze bulb didn't work properly. At first it pumped ok, but then refused to get hard. It seemed fuel was backflowing the wrong way.
I have two separate fuel systems on the boat, so I tried the other squeeze bulb. It too refused to get hard. It was a chilly morning (about 45 F), and the rubber was stiff.
Could there be a problem with the squeeze bulbs or is it a motor problem. They are after-market bulbs (Sea Sense or Tempo) and I have had cold weather problems with them before. Or is it possible that the floats in the carbs are not shutting off the fuel as I squeeze the bulb? This seems unlikely because the motor was not flooded.
Help.
