Squeezing to prime

I have a 1979 Evinrude 115 horse motor. The question I have is when you squeeze the black thing to prime it. Is there a way that a person could install maybe a electric device and just flip a switch to prime it instead of having to get up and go to motor and prime it. Just curious.

Where there is a will there is a way...

I guess one could use an electric pump. But you would need a pressure sensor to cut off the pump once primed. That is assuming there is not a fuel leak, and (if carbureted) that the float needles seat properly. Then the pump would not cut off and keep pumping (and leaking). If there's a leak you would have a heck of a fire hazard on your hands.

Just my humble opinion. :)

Ive seen these types of electrical priming pumps in old OMC acessorie cataloge.Maybe BRP still has them.

electric pumps on outboards is a complete fire hazard. there is no oil sump, for the switch to work off of.

properly tuned motor and healthy fuel system, it should only have to be primed the first time it is started.

Agree 100% with TD. Electric pumps are an accident waiting to happen, even worse it could be a disaster.

If I were you, I'd rig your hose so that the primer bulb is easily accessible so that you could prime it while you're taking your straps off the boat and getting ready to launch. That's what I do and once you prime it (filling the fuel bowls for the carburetors is all you're doing), that should be the last time you have to all day.
If you're having to squeeze the primer bulb every time you start it, something's wrong.
