I was watching the news and a blurb came on saying it was for sale. Some guy in Parksville spent about $200.000 fixing it up and is know selling it for about
$90.000. I think that would be a cool boat to get.

Re: SS Minnow

Did the professor finally figure out how to fix a two foot hole in the side of the boat?

'Gilligan's Island' S.S. Minnow Restored
Classic TV Boat for Sale

PARKSVILLE, British Columbia (Aug. 28 ) - If you're interested in a three-hour tour, George Schultz of Parksville has just the boat for you.

For $99,000 Canadian, about $89,400 U.S., you can buy the boat famous for setting aground on an uncharted desert isle to set the stage for the 1960s television classic "Gilligan's Island."

The S.S. Minnow supposedly off for a three-hour tour when, as the theme song explained, "The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Minnow would be lost."

The real-life Minnow also ran aground.

The twin-diesel, 36-foot mahogany Wheeler Express Cruiser hit a reef in Hecate Strait as the former owner was taking the vessel down the coast from Alaska. Scotty Taylor of Parksville said the owner sold the 46-year-old boat to him for salvage on condition that he promise to restore it.

Schultz, a boat broker, estimated Sunday that the work cost more than $180,000 U.S.

Kind of like the old definition of a boat as a hole in the water into which to pour money?

"You better believe it!" Schultz said with a laugh.

Taylor is selling the storied vessel because he's tired of it.

"He's going on 70 now and doesn't want to bother with it anymore," Schultz said. "It would make a great investment for a three-hour tour."

According to the Gilligan's Island Web site (gilligansisle.com), the boat is the third of four vessels used in the show. Taylor's Minnow was used in the opening credits of the second season.

So what was "a millionaire and his wife" doing on a tub like that anyway?

Tub?? I think it is a thing of emmense beauty. I wish I could afford something like that. I could maybee swing the price tag (if i sold my home), but the maint/op/fuel bills would devour a millionare AND his wife.

Re: SS Minnow

I doubt she cost 90 grand in 1960 and a millionaire in 1960 probably wouldn't have any problem with a yacht ten times that size.

(Actually I like the old girl too, I was just poking fun at the series)

Re: SS Minnow

.. thought some about another post on boats over 20 years old and got to thinking what boat the SS Minnow might have been.... behold QC had that answer three years ago :) some of these style boats are still on the market under various manafacturers as this link shows... cool stuff. guess a 20 yr ol boat is just a pup to some of these..

Re: SS Minnow

you guys think too small......

the boat mary-anne AND ginger !:D

(at the age they were when they took the tour !)

actually....i dont see why the professer couldnt make up some poly resin and they could have fixed the boat !.....it would hold even if there was no fiber glass....just plain street clothes as a fabric for the repair !

and what about the skipper?.....it was all his fault the yacht was beached.....i mean as the skipper....he must take all responcibility for wrecking the tub.
silly mate or not !

i i think i remember seeing actual footage where gilligan pitched the anchor overboard with out the anchor line attached.
and what about the marine radio?.....footage clearly shows the antenna for the radio in tact when the storm hit.
why was no s.o.s or mayday ever sent?.......why was there position not even reported?

and with all the natural resorces on the island why was a decent raft never built......(when for centuries....natives had been building outriggers from the very same materials found on the island?)

what do you guys think........WHOS FAULT WAS IT ANY HOW !
