I damaged my prop this weekend along with my pride. The pride thing I will get over however the SS prop is another story. I have heard you can have them reworked. Is this a good idea? I bent 2 of the 3 blades. The shop I talked to said it would be about 110.00 to 150.00 to have this done and take 2-3 weeks to finish. They said it would be like new.

Re: SS prop rework

This happens to props now and then, don't let it get to you. I've seen some shallow water loving fishermen to go through 3 to 5 props in a season.

2-3 weeks seems like an awful long time to be without a boat during the boating season...during winter though, not so bad!

Maybe you can get that one reworked while also getting another prop to get you back on the water now. Then you can use the reworked prop as a backup. There are deals out there if you look around. For example, iboats has 2 SS prop sales right now. One is a blowout and the other is a half price sale.
http://www.iboats.com/mall/propfinder/

If you think you can get by on an aluminum prop for a few weeks while your SS prop is reworked then you can get an aluminum prop for really cheap. Then use the aluminum as your backup.

Good luck!

Re: SS prop rework

Thanks bayman. Well right now the prop is the least of my problems. I have a gear oil leak I am tring to run down so I am out of the water for awhile anyway not to metion the rear end in my truck was damaged when I crossed a bridge that is being worked on and resurfaced. So I won't be in the water anytime soon. :(

Uummm, James... where is the "gear oil" leak coming from? It's possible that you bent the propshaft when you bent the prop. So, have that checked, maybe the seal at the propshaft is the source of the leak?

TilliamWe
I had the oil leak before the bent prop. The bent prop is just rubbing salt in the wound. If it was that seal would it leak in the boat or on the outside?

Re: SS prop rework

Thanks for putting the problems in order for me. If a propshaft bent & caused the seal to go out in the lower unit, the lube would leak out from behind the prop & into the water/driveway.
