SS to aluminum switch

Hey all. Have a 17' bowrider V-hull with an old Johnnyrude V4 115HP outboard . I want to switch out the SS prop for aluminum since props are cheaper than lower units which I already had to replace. Current prop is SS 13 3/8" x 17. I'm pretty happy with the performance, the boat came with a spare 18 pitch alum prop, a bit faster on the top end but hole shot was lame. WOT RPM's were in the happy range with both props. Looking around the closest it looks like I can come to the SS prop in aluminum is 13 1/4" x 17. Will the slight diameter change mean much? Will performance be similar? I pull skiers occasionally. Could use another 50HP on the boat but that's not in the budget.

Thanks

Re: SS to aluminum switch

Think I missed something... you want to get away from SS for saving your LU, but you're looking at getting another SS?

You may want to look at a 4-blade aluminum to help that hole-shot... that is, if you want to go with aluminum.

To answer your question on the diameter, you're not going to see anything noticeable if you have identical prop models. The difference will be if they are different manufacturers... performance is likely to change.

Re: SS to aluminum switch

Hi thanks, sorry if it wasn't clear. Want to switch from SS to aluminum on my 2 stroke Johnny. Current SS prop is 13 3/8" x 17. Closest I can find in aluminum is 13 1/4" x 17. Hmm a four blade aluminum? Interesting, so I see a Rubex 4 blade 12 3/4" x 17. If I went 4 blade would that be the closest match for what I have now?
