Tuesday i will be heading to Jacksonville Fl. I want to fish that part of St.Johns River. I was told that the river turns from fresh water to salt water. I was wondering if i put in in fresh water but run to salt water but never leave the river do i have to have a salt water fishing license along with my freshwater license to fish? Also does the boat have to be set up for salt water as far as cost guard equipment is concerned?

Which license depends on the species you are fishing for and keeping. As far as equipment required I believe that is dictated by inland waters vs ocean waters, not fresh or salt. These are my best guesses.

Not from FL so cannot say about the Lic, but the CG regs are classed in boat length. Under 16'and over 16'. So, if you are good for your size, freshwater/saltwater does not matter...

We boat and fish in the St.Johns river and the Nassau river a lot. On the Nassau river(about 10 miles above St.Johns) the Wildlife officers consider anything East of Highway 17 to be salt water and anything West of 17 to be fresh water, so I guess the St.Johns in Jacksonville has a similar rule...might want to ask the Wildlife guys, but you'll need both licenses if your going to fish both areas. There's several nice boat ramps near where the ICW comes into the St.Johns River. Good Luck!

Sorry people. I just realized that I dug up an old post. I have to remember not to reply to anything when doing a search.

i live in Jaxs, i just get fresh and salt. that way there is no question if you are legal. besides you can fish fresh today, and salt tommorrow, any where in Florida.
