Sta-bil any good without starting?

Will Sta-bil help the gas in my tank if I can't start the motor and get it all mixed in? I've got a full tank (around 20 gallons) in a 2001 Glastron SX-175 I/O. Thanks.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but how is starting the engine going to help mix the fuel? I've always been told to add it before filling up so that the motion of the gas filling the tank allows it to mix, but I don't think starting the engine will do much for you.

One thought, if the boat is on a trailer and you are really concerned about it, you could always tow it around town, up and down some hills, around a few corners, etc. Just a thought.

I would want stabilized fuel sitting in the fuel lines which is why ideally you want to run the motor with sta-bil already mixed in the tank.

I think he's referring to getting the Stabil into the fuel lines, etc., not just mixing it in the tank. You definitely want to do that if you can, but just having it in the tank will be of some benefit.

Starting the motor and letting it run will allow the sta-bil to enter the fuel line and into the motor, thus protecting the entire fuel system. If you cant put the boat in the water tow it around the block a few times the start it on the garden hose and let it run for 10 to 15 min.

Sorry guys, I should have clarified: I can't start it (flywheel, starter issues).

When you pour the Stabil in, just step back far enough to put a hand on the side of the boat and start rocking it sideways.

Well it will keep the gas in the tank from going bad.
I would add it then try to drain the carb at least...better than not treating the fuel at all.

Well if you bar it over it will work the mechanical fuel pump.

Drain the carb, spray some fogging oil in the throat, and the sta-bil will keep the gas in the tank good for next year...

I agree with the other guys. Pour it in the tank. Shake the boat and then squirt fogging oil in the carb and cylinders.
