I just had a yama tech tell me (under no circumstances) use STABIL on a 2stroke carb engine, He said yamaha came out with a tech notice warning not to use it. Never heard such a thing.

I have not seen anything from Yamaha come across my desk that said that but maybe I missed it. Was he selling the Yamaha stabilizer?

Yes, I just had a tech also tell me the same thing. I had my 2 stroke carb taken apart and cleaned. He said not to use stabil. But also said only run marine non ethanol fuel thru it also with ring free additive.

He said only use non eth gas, no stabilizer of any kind. I was really shocked.

The old red regular Stabil was ethanol based and not meant for the ethanol fuel
not sure what the new blue is based on, but it is suppose to be for the ethanol fuel

Maybe they meant not to use the red stuff because it had ethanol in it

Hard to use non-ethanol fuel if you cannot find it

Before I left the shop this afternoon, I thumbed through my Yamaha tech reports for the last year and didn't see anything. Yamaha's official stand is that ethanol fuel up to but not exceeding 10% can be used in their products with no ill effect. But they do say not to use anything over 10%. Nowhere do they say not to use ethanol. Some mechanics put words in Yamaha's mouth.

I think the tech. was more or less telling me the best way to keep the carbs from having issues.

What a load of %**#%. Even the old manuals call for the use of Stabil for two strokes. I have used Stabil on all of my motors for years. I am running four different motors at this time. It is essential if you want to avoid the effects of the lousy fuel that the government insists we use. If you don't use it the fuel goes sour in about 30 days and starts clogging your carbs. A clogged carb is death to a two stroke. The bad fuel will also clog your Lawn Mower, Generator and any other carb you may have that is used infrequently. My customers that use Stabil have no carb issues or any other motor issues related to fuel. Maybe your "Tech" needs the work.

Maybe I need to see HIS tech notice. But just the same I am reevaluating his level of skill/knowledge.
