I was just wondering if anyone has used bleach to clean the decks of their boats, or maybe on/off or something similar. I've got some pretty bad stains I would like to get rid off and Simple Green isn't doing the job. Thanks

Erock, before jumping in with any type cleaner, use it on a smaller out of the area place first to see how it works first. JMHO

How bad or noticeable are they? Do you have any idea what they are from? Is the surface smooth or textured? Is the fiberglass fairly new with a good surface, or weathered and oxidized. Can you post some pictures?
All this would be helpful in making any sort of meaningful suggestions.

I've used muratic acid diluted 50% with water and a dash of boat soap. Let it sit a bit and then wash off. It'll take the wax off so if you use it on the hull rewax...

I tend to stay away from bleach as it's an oxidizer and can add to oxidation of the gel coat. Is it wax/rubbing compoundable? If it is, a good rubbing compound can remove staining? Once removed, you can re-wax and should hold-up well? A toothbrush or larger similar brush with a mild abrasive cleaner might do trick as well? When cleaning of the interior decking of my Chris Craft (after 8+ years of carpet covered exposure to the elements) we use soft scrub bathroom cleaner which is a bleach product with mild abrasives to get the stubborn stains up, it worked well, however, it never regained any shine/luster? Could've been the exposure or the soft scrub?

Good Luck!

I just recently purchased the boat so I have no idea what the stains are. The surface is textured( it's where we walk) so I don't plan on waxing afterwords. I just want to get it looking clean. I might try to use some hull cleaner and see if that works. The boat is self bilging so if I'm careful I shouldn't have to worry about getting the stuff on the carpet that is under the benches and in the ski locker.

I just used Star Brite Gel Hull Cleaner and it worked great. I had some tough staining around my water line and it took it off almost instantly. Bought it at my local Walmart.
