Staining around carb idle mixture screw

I've got a 1997 Volvo 5.7GL, Model 572BPLKR. It has what I think is a Holley 2300 2 barrel carb on it. I recently noticed a stain around one of the idle mixture adjust screws. Looks like it could possibly be a very slow fuel leak that has varnished without dripping down.

I was recently checking the idle screw adjustment as the engine idles ok but will sometimes shudder or stall while idling in gear after a few minutes. Does anyone think there is a link between the brown staining around this screw and the idling problem? The screw is 1 turn out from all the way in. The other screw is adjusted the same amount but doesn't have a stain.

Is this a problem anyone is familiar with? Thanks!

Re: Staining around carb idle mixture screw

Fairly common. There is a cork seal that also provides friction for the screw (to keep vibration from changing adjustment). They are sold in 10 packs. Holley #26-110-10, any speed shop should be able to get em.
