I installed my new Rapture stainless prop and the trim tab was hitting the prop. I know this must be a common problem when switching over to a stainless prop.

I thought about removing the trim tab but I like having it there as an anode if nothing else so I cut the trim tab about a 1/4 inch above the prop leaving about an inch or so of trim tab.

Anyone see a problem with this??

I don't want to get on the water a realize I made a mistake.

Thanks for any input.

Hi Elk.The S/S is only a problem when you fit a larger dia prop.It should have been at most the same dia as the one you replaced.Cutting the trim tab anode will make the boat start to wonder either left or right. :(

Elk Chaser,
What you've done is No Big Deal..........
Perfectly Acceptable.......
Going to the Flat Anode, is Another Option......

Bayrider,
It's the Rake of the blades that causes the interference with the Tab........
Trimming to fit is Fine........

Elk, Merc and aftermarket actually make three zinc anodes (at least). One is standard, and is probably the one that hits, the second has a smaller fin set back a bit,(I use this one with my Rapture prop), and the third is the flat anode. I recommend the small fin type. It is the same price as the flat and you get more zinc.

Did you read the instructions that came with the prop? It will say in them that the trim tab needs to be replaced, and it'll call out the part number.

Chris.......
