Stainless prop for 90HP Honda, adviseable?

It was mentioned to me that a stainless prop for a 90HP Honda might not be a good idea, due mainly to the weight of the prop. The implication was that it would be hard on the lower unit gears. I heard this from a friend, who supposedly heard it from an "expert". Any truth to this?

I would more thank likely purchase a 4-blade unit, assuming it's available, as I understand they have better hole-shot and mid-range fuel economy. A slight loss of top speed would not be a big deal.

Thanks,

Stainless will work just fine and yes a 4 bladed one will give you a better hole shot.

If you run in water where you are likely to hit submerged objects like stumps, logs, rocks, oyster bars, then the aluminum may be better since the blades might break or bend on impact, saving your gears, foot, lower unit. they make a composite prop called Comprop that is designed to break upon impact and they run around $100. If you're in good deep water most all the time then the stainless prop could give you a bit better performance, since the blades are thinner, stronger, and have better characteristics. I run a Ballistic Stainless prop on my 90HP Yamaha and it's like new, but I try to stay away from stumps, etc. Good Luck!

HA! Heard it on the street corner so it must be true! False. Esp with that beast Honda. It will love the SS providing its the correct pitch.
