After being out fishing at the weekend I headed back to the boatramp. The boat travelled back without any problems, about 6 to 8 miles. When I got to the boatramp it was busy and I had to queue to use the ramp, but when moving slowly (minimum throttle) the engine stalled -it's got quite a big prop fitted and will sometimes stall if you try and move the boat around with the engine on idle. The problem was I couldn't get it started again, I ran the battery and the spare battery down trying to start it. Got a tow the few yards to the ramp and when I got home (about half an hour later) it started first spin when I went to flush the engine out.
Did I flood the engine trying to start it?, I did flick the choke when it wouldn't start. Any suggestions why it wouldn't start? Are these difficult to start when hot, and just cooling down a bit made it easier to start? Don't know how hot it was but the flywheel was quite hot to the touch when it wouldn't start.
I don't want this to happen to me out at sea, where it could be dangerous. Is there anything I need to look at on the engine, or should I have waited 10 minutes before trying to re-start after it wouldn't go?
The engine is a 1971 60hp, had been running fine and had new plugs less than a month ago.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks
kevin
