I have a 1986 150hp Mercury XR2 S/N #0B122909 and I've gotten the information on it before. The motor was redone in 2005 and I'm thinking that it was done to be like an XR4 if that's possible but the cowling is an XR4 partly.
The last couple time's I've taken it out to the lake to just boat around the lake it seems to stall around 2000rpm. I'll put the throttle down 3/4 the way get it up to speed then go WOT and it will stall at about 2000 rpm occasionally then just jump up the rpm's right away rather than gradually going up. What could this be caused by and would the power tilt/trim have anything to do with the sudden jump? Such as being too low? I've never had it too high to cause the jump but it just seems like occasionally it will kick into gear rather than gradually speeding up.
