stalling at high speed

I have a mid 70's 351 W straight inboard. Just installed a reman carb (roch 2-jet). 1967 80 gallon galvanized steel gas tank in transom (fuel level higher than carb). Copper lines from tank to near electric fuel pump. antisiphon valve on top of tank.

Engine dies (or almost does if you bring back throttle quickly). When I connected a remote tank no problem. I don't think this is a tank vent problem.

Question- is the problem more likely the pickup tube or old copper lines (no kinks)? Fuel filter is new (with drainable metal bowl). I boiled this tank out three years ago and only had the problem this season. Tank is a pain to get out. Think I could pop the screen (think it has one) off the bottom of the pickup tube with a stiff wire?

Do antisiphon valves go bad?

TIA,

Gregg

Re: stalling at high speed

Could be an air leak, plugged anti siphon valve (yes they can go bad) plugged pickup screen or anything. Just going to have to take them apart and inspect each part.
The pickup tube should unscrew from the tank in order to check the screen. Leave the screen on it. Or anyting in the tank will plug the antisiphon valve.
