Hello to everyone. Have we all been here before? Get the boat in the water...start backing up, the trailer is long gone at this point being parked, by my trailer captain..hopefully not pulling some as*&oles fishing line with him, because you no nobody pulls their lines or crab traps out of the water for you, and now an otherwise perfect/professional grade launch is miserably failing me as I coast backwards in an ever so slowly tidal twist with just the sounds of crank, crank, crank...rumble...stall, crank, crank, rumble-rumble, stall. Bang! fired up, now be gentle, try to get it into gear and put the throttle to her, before she stalls again and I float into the shore or worse another boat...or fishing line that my trailer captain missed.

Now this is really getting under my skin. 1982 Evinrude 115. Runs great, just not near the docks! It does idle, just that is has intermittent issues when restarting. It will crank and fire for a second or start then stall as you are trying to get it into gear or some throttle behind it - makes you very MAD and Angry.

Once it starts it is fine and will idle, just this little bug it has up its arse.

Please help me at the boat ramp.

Do you give it anytime to warm up before just putting it in gear? I would tie up and let it run for a couple of minutes before putting a load on it. Your dealing with an old engine, give it a minute or two to get going. Also what RPM does it idle at, may be idling a little too low.

+1 for letting her warm up. I usually let mine run (idle) while I'm getting everything squared away with the trailer. Just give it a couple of minutes before trying to throw it in gear. That goes for any carbed engine

I was thinking a rebuild. I don;t know when it was done last. Think I can handle this rebuild? What do I need and how hard is it to do? Just a cleaning out and putting back together or is there a kit with new parts? Thanks for the replies. A little warm up is a must, I know...try to do this, but it is a busy ramp.

Even when I am coming back in and it is warm I get the butterflies that I don't know what I am going to run into once I am right at the dock. It may stall then and then I am cranking it up to throw it into gear to get out of the way if you know what I mean.

Hi, definately get a kit one for each carb also get a service manual for your motor if you haven't got one already, you don't wan't to be reusing old gaskets, rebuilds aren't to difficult if you follow the directions.

Best of luck,
Mike

If you are going to start fussin with the motor you best get a copy of the OEM shop manual. It has all the neat stuff in it on how to do things including rebuilding carbs.

You may want to try a decarb and carb adjustment/tune up. Also run a compression check.
