I have 1997 Johnson 175 fast strike VIN. J175GLEUC . I took it out the other day and it was running fine I stopped and fished for a while and when I started to leave it would bog down and stall every time I put it in gear. It would restart over and over with no problem it would just stall when put in gear. I put a new fuel bulb on it no help, So I went through carbs changed leaky warped float bowls used new gaskets, new plugs, checked shift interrupter switch, hooked fuel line to a separate can of gas, mixed fuel unhooked VRO no help, compression check 90 lb each cylinder, each time going to the lake to try it out, no help, It takes gas and will rev up fine when its not in gear. Any ideas?

Do a cylinder drop test on it to make sure it's firing on all the cylinders. Do it about 2000 rpm.

I have a similar issue upon warm restart. I find it varies in severity based upon how long it sets.

I have never solved it, however, I find if I run her a couple of minutes at idle, before shutdown, and run her at high idle (1100 RPM), after warm restart, after a couple of minutes, she will start to run normal.

How do you do a cylinder drop test? pull plug wires one at a time when running? the engine does it even warmed up, I can pump the choke and it eventually will take off but when I shut it off same thing.

Pull one plug wire at a time and see if you get an rpm change. If you do, that's a good cylinder. No change, bad cylinder.
