Hey peeps.

I have a 86 Bayliner Ciera. She has a Volvo 260A fresh at the end of last season. Also installed a Mallory electronic ignition and a remanufactured carb (rochester quad).

The motor is timed eight degrees BFTC. She idles fine, right at eight hundred RPMs. When I rev it in netural it revs up to about fourty thousand. not sure if it should go more. The problem is when its shifted into gear it stalls. I have been told it could be the shift cable, can any one explain what effect the shift cable has on stalling the engine? I sure appreciate the help.

Re: Stalls when shifting

It won't be a shift cable on a Volvo, they don't have shift interrupt systems. Reving in neutral means nothing.
May be a carb adjustment problem. Even a vacuum leak somewhere.
Can you turn the prop when the drive is in neutral?

Thnx for the reply Don. I dont know if I can spin the prop or not, will check.
If the prop does spin, then it must be a Carb problem? the timing is where it is supposed to be correct?

Once again thnx, you are always a big help.
