Stamas Versus Scarab Sport -- Deadrise?

Here's a newbie question; Does the deadrise tell you most of what you need to know about how the boat will perform/ride in the water? I am considering a Stamas 290 Tarpon and a Scarab Sport. It will be very difficult to get across the country to demo the Tarpon. The boat will be used primarily in the San Francisco Bay and Delta, but it would be nice to have the capacity to go out past the Golden Gate Bridge, too. Anyone have any input as to the relative rides/seaworthiness of these two boats? I believe the deadrise on the Scarab Sport is 23 degrees and on the Stamas 19 degrees.

The more the deadrise, the more comfortable it will ride in rough water, and the more power you will need to achieve a given speed. There are other factors that can affect ride as well, such as weight, load distribution, etc. Driving each boat is optimal, obviously.

Deadrise is a good thing - up to a point. Excessive deadrise can result in odd, if not tricky, handling. Especially at low speeds.

Deadrise and speed go together. But not in a simple way. In flat water the hull with less deadrise is faster. See all the flat bottom racing boats for lakes. In big waves the hull with more deadrise does not get knocked around as much. So it can go faster in comfort.

For practical purposes the boat with more deadrise is intended for higher speeds. The boat with less deadrise will be equally comfortable, just at lower speeds.

Here is another good thread on deadrise - Difference in Deadrise

Both of these boats are equally seaworthy, but different themes. The Scarab for speed, the Stamas for comfort. The Stamas literature gives the draft as 19", makes no mention of the deadrise - 290 TARPON SPECIFICATIONS

For a family boat I would pick the Stamas over the Scarab. The Stamas Express model would also make a great family boat -
It's aready been said that the more deadrise the better chance of a smooth ride in rough water. Both mfgs have been around a long time and their boats proven...but I think Scarab has the edge on performance by a long shot.

Not to rain on your parade but check the Tarpon's high dashboard. It was way too high for me and obstructed my vision.
