I am repowering my new to me Chris Craft 308 which has twins 5.0 engines and volvo dual prop outdrives. I am ordering the engines this week but not sure what to order. I am wondering if they are both standard rotation or one is reveres? Also how do I tell which is which in the boat? Both engines are locked tight and I have tried almost everything to get them freed up but am too the point of just spending the 10k and it all be new. Thanks
Joe

reverse rotation motors went away in the 70's, your boat is at least 80's if it has the old AQ series, and 90's if its SX drives.

are you sure its the motors that are locked up. unless you pull the drives first, you will not know.

I am only asuming they are locked up. They have been sitting in the boat and not maintained for 5 years. I bought the boat knowing i had alot of work ahead of me and have to put out the cash for it if needed but i like to think i got a hell of a deal on it. I cannot get it to turn over by hand that is why I assume it is locked up. Been pickling it for over a week with mystery oil. I did the same thing a couple years ago with another engine which was in worse shape and had been sitting outside for 7 years. I am a glutton for punishment i am affraid. Wny would i not be able to turn it bu hand with the outdrive on?
Thanks
Joe

Ayuh,..... The drive, 'n motor are splined together,......

If the drive is seized, the motor won't turn over,.....

Usually . . . dual prop outdrives do not require a reverse rotation engine with twins. You find a reverse rotation engine with single prop outdrives on twin engine boats, which are usually the go-fast boats.

One way you can tell by looking at the propellers . . .

For as long as I can recall, Volvo made the choice between Standard and Counter Rotating with the Shift Linkage on the upper gearbox

ALL Volvo and MerCruiser I/O’s use standard rotation engines. ALL OF THEM.
