How bouyant is star board? Im looking to apply it to a skim board Im making this winter and want to know if its a better alternative that wood. Also can it be sanded?
I threw a scrap of starboard that measures 5/8" thick and about 3" diameter in the sink and it barely floats with the top face even with the water surface. When I place a 1/2" piece of rock on it it sinks.
it's expensive. it also flexes a bit so depending on the size of the board you're making you might need to reinforce or sandwich 2 together. i'd probably just stick to wood unless you just want starboard.
Starboard is a heavy, dense material. If you were to make a skim board out of it you'd need three people to throw it !!!. No, it wouldn't be that bad but it wouldn't be the ideal medium to use for that purpose. But, it does sand easily, works with all types of wood working tools and is expensive.
