starboard?

I'm looking to replace the fabric stretched around the SS railing on my aft deck prior to enclosing it. Has anyone used sheets of starboard screwed to the railings (approx 24"x 96") instead of having fiberglass panels made for the lower surround, does starboard stay clean or is it hard to keep clean comp to fiberglass?

Starboard is expensive if you haven't priced it. A 4'x8' sheet of 1/2" will set you back about $125-$150. Even 1/2 will not be as strong as fiberglass, but it is easy to keep clean. You can drill/tap/screw/router it as wood, and it comes in white, cream, and black.

Nope! It will pop right off!

Starboard is just Polyethylene in sheet form.

As SMOKE said, "NOTHING sticks to it!"
"The only way to join it is to weld (melt) it!
And that is even tricky to do!

The reason I asked before we bought our "ocean" I looked at several carvers and the rear panels were 1/4" starboard screwed to the railings and they just bend right around the corners thats sort of what I was looking to do seemed to work for them.

Starboard is easy to clean.
And 1/4 will bend easier than 1/4 plywood.
If you need a really tight bend, a heat gun will do the trick.

There is an adhesive that will stick to it. Called 3M scotch weld I believe. It's hella expensive.

I think I will screw or bolt it on the the rails at top and uprights the uprights are close enough together I believe to keep it stiff enough, if not an aluminum angle should do the trick don't ya think?

They make a specific fastener for the starboard or plastic panel to hook to railings. It's round on top and the 'fingers' come together for a 1/4" x 20 SS screw to pass thru the board. No holes in the railings.

Gorilla Glue also makes a water activated adhesive that sticks to starboard. I used it on a table and holds really well. Also bonds to corian.

Yes it is...although I haven't picked up a set of clubs in years. In fact, I loaned them to a friend who wanted to take up golf and I've never seen them again!! I hope he's gotten good....

For about 5 years straight 4 of us guys would fly into orlando to golf for a week and Debary was always worth the drive! really nice area and great people.
