Hello everyone! I have been lurking around the forum since May 2015. Finally bought my Starcraft and brought it home. The 1st set of pics is The Starcraft setting at the local marine dealer. My co-workers(both big fishermen and boat guys) where out Surveying in front of the marine dealer. They saw the 16' SS V and took pics and text me because they new I was wanting a tin boat instead of a glasser. After seeing the pics. I knew I wanted it, so I got online and started researching tin boat forums. iboats looked like the best forum online for Starcrafts or tin boats in general! So I joined the forum and been reading a ton of build threads.(I still have not read them all and have spent endless hours reading!!!! Crazy!!!) Here are the pics. :

Now, I go and talk to the owner of dealership and try to buy it.. but we can't agree on the price. He wants 800 bucks for the boat and trailer both. I told hime that was a bit much and offered him 600 bucks. He counter with 700 and I told him I would think about it. Well I felt 600 was about all I wanted to spend on it. So, I let thing ride for a while every several months check by the dealer to see if the boat was still on the lots as I drove by. One day it's gone! Well, not gone... Just moved to the rear of the lot. So, Still checking in and seeing if the boat was on the lot on a "drive buy", I was planning on a spring 2017 purchase of the boat just because I wanted it. Well someone posted a 1985 Smokercraft on cl for 600 bucks with a 115 Evinrude. I call the guy and told him I would go to the bank 1st thing in morning and get the money and head his way. I called the guy about 8:00am but got no answer... Then I went to the bank at 9:00am sharp and got the money. Called the guy and he said the boat was leaving the drive as we speak. So now I have money in hand, but no boat!!! Then I think well maybe I will go to the local marine dealer and offer 600 in "Dead Masons" and see if he will take it. The old man broke my arm taking the offer so fast!!!!! I was feeling like I should have low balled him, but before he was set firm on 700. Anyways, She has found a new home!
Here's a pic. of her in the yard
.

So after I go it home my buddy stops by to see what kinda shape the floor is in. Well in a few mins. we had done this to the floor.

The PO was restoring it but never paid the old man at the local marine for it so he repo the boat. The guy never sealed the ply. with anything! Totally rotten!!

Anyways let the project begin! :D

Welcome to the TinPlace.

Since she a repo, got good paperwork?

You paid too much. Once they move to the back of the lot, it's deal making time. LOL

You say shoestring - Hope you have a little give and take in the budget. It just seems to go the wrong way .

That looks like a nice candidate for a redo. Lots of different ways to go with a nice clean slate. I'll be tagging along for the ride.

I may have payed a little much, but around here Starcraft SS are a little more rare. Plus it is what I wanted! Now for even better news... I bought a glasser way before the Starcraft and is now the donor. I payed 300 for the Glassmaster on cl. The seat in it were brand new, came with a new paddle, 2 10 lb. mushroom anchors, 5 new plugs, 2 6 gal gas tanks, and new muffs for the motor. The motor ran good on the muffs when I bought it so maybe there is a few good things going for the restore. As you can see from the pics. the floor is shot in the glassmaster.

Thinking of going with a deck up front and 4 pedestal seat layout, kinda of like modern Lund or Starcraft layout. All about what funds i can put into it. The admiral wants to go to the lake, but don't understand what all it takes.

:thumb: I was joking about spending too much.

Putting 1 and 1 together makes one tinny. What HP is the Evinrude?

The Motor is a 65 hp. The boat and the motor both are 1972 models.

Well the good news is an SS is the perfect boat for a shoestring budget. You can spend very little on the restore and still have a safe functional boat. It all just depends on how long you want your work to last. Painted exterior ply will get you on the lake. I think you got your money's worth for sure on the glasser although that Evinrude is an electric shift model and parts are scarce for the controls and lower units on those.

Thanks for your post ezmobee. I've read all of your SS rebuild. Very good info. in the thread. Not sure which parts you are talking about being scarce? The control/shifter?? I know all the lower unit parts you can buy. My brother replaced the solenoid and worn parts on his electric shift, which looks like mine. Now the controls I'm not sure about.

I made a mistake on the models. I'm a 1971 model!(I started the thread on my birthday so I would easily know how long the rebuild takes!:D) The boat and the motor are 1972 models. (I must have had 1971 on the brain)

Good idea on when to start and tag the age of a re-do B.
Oh and BTW, happy belated.
