I am looking at starcraft 190 and was wandering if anyone had opinions of them. I know they been around for a while but dont know much about the fiberglass boats. Today I looked at Tahoes, Bayliners,VIP,Glastron, and Starcrafts. For the price range I am looking at I liked the Starcraft and the Glastron. I was just wanting opinions from anyone on these boats. I looked in the different forums but didnt really find anything. All the dealers except for the one that sold Tahoes had nothing good to say about them but they didnt bash any of the other brands even if they didnt sell them. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Starcraft boats

My last boat was a 19 ft Starcraft 1987 model. I'm not sure about the new models but my older one was a very solid, well built boat. Starcraft has been around a very long time. Go with at least a 4.3 if you are looking at IO models.

Re: Starcraft boats

Its the 4.3 which is what my current boat has. He said it would run in the high 40's. Nothing against a four banger but I dont think I would ever be happy with it. The Glastron comes with 5.0 volvo and everything else is the merc 4.3 which mercs. are alot more popular around here so parts are easier to find in stock and that is one downfall to the volvo. The nearest dealer is at least an hour away that sells boats. Lots around but sell fishing boats only except for the Tahoes.

I don't see a heck of a lot of difference between Starcraft, Tahoe, and VIP. In theory at least, the Glastron benefits from more advanced engineering (VEC etc). Another approach to this selection would be to see which dealer(s) helps you the most to get the EFI version of the 4.3L.

None of the dealers have the efi version on anything the size range I was looking at. All of them said they were about out of 19 -21 foot boats. I dont know how boats dealers are as far as trading from other dealers or what they do. I like both the Glastron and the Starcraft but I am trying to figure out which dealer has the best rep. Every dealer we went to only had one boat and they said they were sold out of all the rest. The other bonus the Starcraft dealer has is about 2000 higher on my trade in (I know he just knocked more of the price of the boat I am looking at to make the other half impressed with the trade in price)

Bummer! That carb limitation would really tilt me toward the 5L deal. Or, as you said, see if any local dealers are willing to bring in an EFI boat from a more distant dealer.

Re: Starcraft boats

I got lucky I guess on my current boat with a 4.3. All I have ever done is turn the key for about 2 or 3 seconds and the boat always starts right up with out haveing to set the choke or pump the throttle. They said the new ones have something on them ( dont remember what they said it was) so they would start easier. When they where all talking about it they looked at me like I was stupid when I said my 94 done this already.

I agree that carb motors work. The Volvo 5L /w carb on my boat was flawless in operation. However, times do change, and the boat with the EFI motor is gonna find more buyers when it's time to sell.
