Hey everybody....I have a 72' 16ft SS:D....few weeks ago after a fishing trip I "discovered" a small hole on the bottom of the boat located right on a rib...the hole looks like a rivet hole but on the rib??? After getting under the boat to better inspect i found the exact same hole on the opposite side....perfectly adjacent to the first....I have no idea what purpose they serve... .....missing rivets?? (again not on the ribs tho right?)...something else?? Anybody got any feedback....ill post a couple pics soon....thanks

Re: Starcraft hull question HELP!

The holes in your keel (and strakes) are factory. They are just non-waterproof appendages.

You better get on down to the Starcraft section and post some pictures of your rig!

Re: Starcraft hull question HELP!

The keel rib is hollow, and there are factory holes drilled out so water doesn't collect and freeze in there.

Not sure if that's what you are describing or not. Some photos would clear things up a bit.

If you want to fill the hole, aluminum rivets or SS bolts with 3M 5200 will work.

Re: Starcraft hull question HELP!

I promise the pics are coming...I have followed about 10 restos on here and everybody is crazy for pics (for good reason)...I'm just not a pic person so it never occurs to take em....ill get better tho...had a great opportunity a couple weeks back and forgot....switched trailers on land using 20 milk crates...a car jack....and a few 2x4s....4hrs of work....by myself...at one point the boat was suspended in the air (about 5ft) only on crates!!! Engine and all!!! Proud moment indeed...but no pics :(

Back to the question....the holes are factory huh?? Not waterproof so do I need to worry about filling them?/ (might be dumb question)...NEVER had water in the hull until recently...(hit a rock while launching on the flooded Mississippi in Wis)....but still not sure where a leak could be coming from cept those 2 holes...rivets seem tight...

Re: Starcraft hull question HELP!

Right. The whole keep and strake are not watertight. The whole seam where they attach isn't watertight. The hull itself is a one piece design.
