Starcrafts living in water?

Fellow Starcraft friends... I need some help here. I'm in a bind for next season. I'm going to rent a slip for my Holiday but I can't decide to just leave her in the water or drop $2,500 for an air lift. I don't know how well I would sleep without the lift. I was going to attempt to build my own lift, but was talked out of this in another threat (prolly for the best!).

So here is my question to ALL aluminum Starcraft owners out there... How would you feel about leaving your boat in the water (salt water) full time?

Oh sheesh Jerry!

A boat that you just carefully restored (well mostly), sitting in the salt all season, IO no less!

I don't feel very good at all buddy!

Yah, I'd be hunting on clist for a lift to get your girl out of the water:D

You did mean NO in the water full time?? Use a lift or trailer.?? Some Marines where I live offer a take out and dry storage and will put your boat in the water and its ready for you to use, then put it away again, a bit pricey but no where near a 2500 dollar bill, And most will let you do a bit of sma;ll repair in there facility on your own.

Re: Starcrafts living in water?

The salt water was very cruel to my Starcraft. The longest I ever left it in the water was a week at a time over the summer. The water behind my house at my dock was on a bayou, considered brackish and still grew barnacles very quickly. Everybody else there had a boat lift except one sail boat and it looked terrible. They also had fresh water plumbed to their docks with a garden hose spicket to rinse their hulls and flush their engines. I have had to go through and clean all of my electrical connections do to corrosion. I think the aluminum hull sped up the electrolysis. My outdrive zincs started out looking new after 40 years of fresh water. They are now very pitted. The 4 months I used my boat on salt water added 10 years worth of wear.
My son left his aluminum jon boat in the same water for 2 months and it is covered in barnacles.

I would leave mine in the saltwater for a day or two. Maybe a week if it was a fishing trip and was using it every day.

Would I leave it any longer HE!! no. I like my boat and have not won the loto yet. The PO of my boat had that brain fart and painted the hull with antifoul paint. What a mess and it sure would be nice to get that stuff off.

You guys are pretty persuasive! I kind of figured no one would be in favor of her living on the water. I guess I'll have to shell out another $2,500 for the lift .

Nasty stuff! Yeah, there's no way I going to subject my boat to that! I'm either getting a lift or leaving her on the trailer. As always, thanks for steering me in the right direction!
