Any help appreciated here-Basic Starflite Selectric with 4 diode rectifier. Rectum fryer is more like it if you want to bend over for new one's at 80.00 ea. At some point Evinrude dumped this setup and also had something simpler prior to this mess. I am trying to determine what year's this happend as well as any input from someone who has done an update or went backward. The engine itself is very good and run's strong but had been stored a number of years, 20 according to registration but moisture and a eternally hooked up battery damaged component's in the electric box. Wasn't prepared for the complex electric's. I've replaced all but the diodes. Given their age and crust I don't trust them even though they meter good as does the stator. My electric shop said average diode life is around 20 yrs. and that the diodes I have were used in great number in school buses but he had the same cost issue I did. From what I remember from Navy day's this look's like a full wave bridge rectifier. This engine is on a very rare 67'Chrysler Commando 115 center console boat which I found in southern mich. Not even a waterline on the boat or engine. This engine was it's first power. Dash was cut just for the Evinrude component's. Wanted to leave thing's that way but maybe this engine isn't worth all the trouble. Any help appreciated. Hate to have to sell it but disability income just won't allow for a repower. Can send pic's. Thank's for any help.

If the diodes test OK and the wires aren't eaten off, I would use them. I've never heard the 20 year lifespan theory, but I won't argue the point.

How is the voltage regulator? That would concern me more than the diodes.

Thank You F_R for taking time to review my post. The voltage regulator was replaced after failed testing. Replaced the Delco with a unit used in vintage Chrysler cars. A similiar Delco was not found. General info. for other reader's --replacement was an E-TRON CH524 at $12.55. Original Evinrude-#379476-$202.02 Almost every part for this engine is available from Marine Engine.com if all other searches fail. I agree about diode life. I'm not sure how the 20yr. lifetime was determined. My supplier is old school so maybe he know's something I don't know. Thank's again for your input. Jerry

Some General Info. 64' Starflite 90S

Some General Info. 64' Starflite 90S

First thing you need here are factory service and part book's. Best source is e-Bay. A great seller is > out-boards< Bought an excellent original service manual for $15.00. His e-bay store is >Andre's Used Outboard Parts<. He is located in Canada but his service is exceptional. Fast ship. He also has a lot of part's. Another good source>boat1flute<complete NOS dual point set w/condenser 22.95. And if all else fails almost every part is available for the 90S from MarineEngine.com. Prices hurt though as most are NOS. Starter solenoid from>aqua power< OMC#508905 OR 18-5836. Sierra and other's also have them but are more. I paid $22.00. Plug wires screw in with exception of the coil. Wire end's avail. from MarinEngine.com in lot's of 10. The original metal strand wire is illegal these day's but can be ordered by the foot through a speed shop. I'm not sure a silicone wire would crimp correctly. Point cam has the word "TOP" stamped in it. Was to make sure it wasn't installed upside down. However it also work's for setting point's when "TOP" just begins opening point's. I double checked this when setting the point's per the book at full advance position when using the distributor marking's for adjustment. Shift coil defaults to forward giving you a way to keep moving. There were a few however that defaulted to neutral. Check serial #. A bit of Sea-Foam(auto supply) added to fuel help's clean carb's. Initial low speed needle setting's at 3/4 turn out from seat work's good for initial setting. Too much fuel in this adjustment will cause a hard misfire as the cylinder loads up. The powerhead can be isolated electrically for troubleshooting. Unplug stator wiring before performing work. DO NOT try and polarize the voltage regulator if you have a charge issue. You'll end up buying a new one. I've got a lot more info. but this a start on some common stuff.

Re: Starflite 90s 1964 Help Wanted!

My son and I just ended up with a 64 Starflite 90-s on a Trihaul Thunderbird.
Sounds like there is ALOT of knowledge base here.

I wondered if someone had the part number for the Recitifier or the replacement ( as long as the motor runs, I am happy )
Engine suposedly ran 3 years ago but needs a new rectifier.

Any help would be great.

The rectifier is made up of 4 individual diodes screwed into heat sinks in the junction box. There are 2 positive and 2 negative diodes. Sorry, I don't have th part numbers handy.
