start motor with trim up ?

with the trim up can i start the motor, not engaging the drive, will i still be rotating the ujoints.

The driveshaft turns when the engine is running. Forward, reverse and neutral are all functions that the drive unit controls. Wouldn't suggest starting with the trim all the way up but, if you must, only at very low RPM's (idle).

running with the trim up in the 'tilt' range can be done at low idle speeds, as mentioned. However, when starting, you want the outdrive down into the 'trim' range, because initially the engine will rev well beyond the low idle range when starting up. the u-joints are not going to like that. . .
