I know this may stupid but none the less I really do not want to ruin a brand new engine. I put a new crate engine, 1988, Mercruiser 350, 270 hp in my boat and finally got everything done. Now when I go to start it up for the first time should I pull my distributer and spin the oil pump to pump up the lifters and put some oil in the cylinders before I crank it over or do they really have lubrication in a new engine coming direct from the factory? Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thank you, Bob

Ayuh,... That takes yet another special Tool...

Whether the motor was test run, or pre-lubed,... or not...

I like to pull the spark plugs, 'n spin it on the starter, no compression for 30 second intervals, several times...
That pumps everything up, even better than the distributer primer tool...

If you use the distro tool, motor needs to be turned over as you are priming to really do it right. If a flat tappet cam, be sure oil has zddp in it. Valvoline racing has it. If not rislone (a bars company) makes a zddp additive (in a yellow quart jug) it keeps the oil sticking to the metal.

Bondo- that will save me alot of work.
Failproof- It has a roller cam and roller lifters, do I need Valvoline with zddp?

Thank you both, Bob
