I'm just dropped a new 4.3 motor in my boat and was wondering if I could start it up without the drive attached to set the timing and make sure all is well. It is a Volvo SX drive so the seapump is on the engine unlike the Mercs. Can I just stick a water hose into the water feed hose on the transom? Everything is connected in the bilge (hoses, wiring, etc.) but the drive is still at the shop getting some things fixed and probably won't be ready until after the holiday. I just don't want to damage anything so I figured I would ask the experts on here.
