I have a 1984 Sears Craftsman 15 hp motor, Model #217 - 586353. The starter clutch gear as I call it is mounted on the side.
The gear broke and I cannot find one anywhere. I have called sears parts direct and they tell me the part is no longer available. I have searched online and cannot find the part. Any suggestions? The part number is 590435A. It's the gear that engages the flywheel to start the motor

There might be another option, but it's probably a long shot. If there's a high school/community college in your area that has a metal-working machine shop class, you might be able to get that gear fabricated from metal on the cheap.
