Hello, I'm new to your forum and hope some of you can help. I have a 2004 mercruiser 3.0 I/O that will not turn over. The solenoid will click only and not engage the starter. I replaced the battery, checked as many fuses as I could find, checked and cleaned wiring and conections. Is there anything else I can do before taking it in to a shop?? Thanks, Tony

you could also try tapping at the starter with a hammer (don't beat on it just wack it a little) things could just be stuck in there. this worked for me on my boat (and several cars over the years) actualy i have to do this every time i start my lawn mower :D

Slave sols are often the cause. Cheap and easy repair. On mine it is not on the starter. Starboard side near front of engine.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard Tony.....

You could pull the Starter,+ Bench Test it.....

It's only 2 bolts,+ a few nuts....

Re: starter doesn't turn over

Thank you all for your help. I'll do some testing as soon as I pick up a meter/test lite. I did take on water about a year ago and wonder if I'm having some delayed reaction now. I barely made it back to the dock ( lost my drain plug) Hard to imagine wear and tear since I have very few hour recorded on it. Tony

Sitting is more "wear and tear" than regular use. It's possible that you're just now seeing the results of your flooding...

Now, be honest, did you "lose" the plug, or did you FORGET the plug? Happens to a lotta folks--that's how I got my boat with a freshly rebuilt drive, but a trashed engine... all for less than the cost of a drive rebuild!

If you need help tracing out your probs, come on back, and we'll tell you which wires to test.

Actually Uraijit, I'm pretty responsibile for checking and double checking safety issues. I was shocked to see that plug out when we reached the dock. When push comes to shove, there is only one person that screwed up. Now when we get in the truck heading for the lake, the first thing my wife says " Dear , did you check the ..........??? Can't blame her. Tony
