starter flywheel question?

i bought a motor from a guy and the starter brackets broke. i had them welded back on but went to order a new starter and it calls for a 8 tooth but the starter that he had and used a few years is a 10 tooth. i asked him if the flywheel was ever replaced and it hadnt. how do i no which starter to purchase .1977 175 johnson. thanks

Not so much the starter but the bendix gear itself needs to match.
