Tried to start my '88 OMC 4.3 and the starter starting grinding....it would crank a little and then start slipping....I recently pulled the starter and put it back in for another issue....could it just be misaligned or something? Even when it was turning the motor over it still didn't sound quite right.....

Thanks

Re: Starter grinding...

I would at least pull it and inspect the teeth on the starter and ring gear...

Re: Starter grinding...

Going to pull it in a few....letting it cool down a little.....But, I had it off a few days ago and the ring gear looked fine...there must have been something I did wrong putting it back in.....

Re: Starter grinding...

Well, I think i've figured out that the starter is fine.....the &*%^&*()^ motor isn't turning again.....I know it's nothing I did because it cranked several times.....what the hell is going on?! Pulled the plugs and took a torque wrench to the crank....it moved slightly.....now it won't...

I'm about ready to dump this thing and cut my losses....the thing is, even with the head gasket blown it ran "OK" on 5 cyls....hard to start but once a little gas was given it ran ok considering.....
