Don S - you recall the starter that was glowing and started a small fire after I rebuilt the carb?<br />small being the key word.<br /><br />Volvo Penta AQ131/275<br /><br />Well I finally got my boat over to my driveway tonight (New tow hitch!) and pulled the starter out of the boat (30 second job).<br />It's a 2 year old starter, sat for 2 years as the previous owner only used the boat once or twice he said.<br /><br />$270 for a new one, ouch. Took it down and got it tested and sure nuff, it has an internal short.<br /><br />Took the starter apart, and sure enough it has an internal short 
I think it's in the winding, or possible that the spring is catching and the motor stopped turning (It did this, it stopped but I can't be sure what caused it).<br /><br /><br />EITHER WAY, I'm taking it into DC Engineering tomorrow to have them put a new winding in it, probably cost half of a new one....<br /><br />Almost there......spring will be here before you know it!! (and I got a new prop too! )
