starter issues on an 85hp force........

ok, battery is new, starter turns over, but very weak (acts like battery is going dead after a few seconds). I was told that the starter needed to be replaced, or rebuilt. $100 to have it rebuilt at a shop. Do they just clean it out & replace the brushes? If so, I will do it. Before I go that route, I will double check the battery connections. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Paul

I think they can be rebuilt in most cases. I found one on
line for 89.00 plus 9.00 ship. I cannot give the web addy here but there is a DC in the name.
Mine was spinning and not turning the engine, and staying hung up on the flywheel.
Hope this helps.

Yes you can take it apart clean the comutator check the bearings abserve the armature and fields for rubbing.Replace the brushes.Lube it up and assemble.
You may want to take the armature to a shop for them to check it on a growler. They could also properly turn and undercut the commutator.Unfortunately now days they probably don't do that stuff any more and just install
a rebuilt and send the old one back as a core.
Maybe a shop that does big stuff might still have the equipment to do a real rebuild on site.
