Ok heres teh deal.....I had to replace the head on my 3.0. I doing so The wires were going around the head the wrong way so the thermostat wires wouldnt reach. So I had to disconnect the wires to the alternator....oops by me....i didnt disconnect teh battery. The wrench hit two prongs and sparked. I then disconnected the battery and hooked everything back up. I tried to start the boat and it just clicked at the relay. When it sparked it must have shorted the 50 amp breaker and it wouldnt reset. I had to get a new one. Now all it does is click at the solenoid. I pulled the starter out and it spins freely with the key turn. The motor is not stuck...it also spins. Battery is fully charged...I put cables from my truck to make sure of cranking amps.....still.....clicking at solenoid. Any suggestions????

Re: Starter Issues

That 50A breaker is for the trim pump, not the engine.

Remove the relay from the socket. With your meter, check to see if you have voltage at the 30 terminal on the relay socket. (Red wire) If you have voltage there, with a jumper wire jump between the 30 terminal of the socket and the 87 (yellow/red stripe). It should crank the engine. If not, you have either a faulty wire between the relay and starter solenoid, or a bad starter solenoid.

Also, what is the full model number of your engine, or the Volvo SN?

Re: Starter Issues

I tried jumping the relay like you said....the solenoid just makes one loud click sound and thats it.....so does that mean the solenoid is bad?
