[h=2]Starter loose at top, 1983 65hp mercury outboard 3 cyl[/h]
Please look at this photo.
Is there suppose to be some kind of bushing at the top of this starter?
There is about 1/8" space all around the top and it wiggles by hand.
I can not imagine it would engage properly as the top is not secured at all.
I bought this pig in a poke 65hp mercury from a guy who said the timing was off.
So much for believing what people say.
Anyway I wanted to check compression first and with no controls yet I figured I would jump the starter so I began disconnecting the starter from the electrical so I did not cause any problem sending voltage backwards through the system.
That is when I discovered the problem.
Is there suppose to be a bushing or is this the wrong starter?
